US Mobile Subscribers
According to Nielsen.com, it would appear that 52% of smartphones are running the Android operating system. Samsung is currently the largest manufacturer of smartphones running Android. Apple, with the help of its new release of the iPhone 5 has managed to achieve 40% and is the only smartphone producer that runs on iOS. Windows still struggles to gain market share with a small 1.2% via cell phone manufacturer Nokia. Given the troubles RIM has had over the years with the steady loss of subscribers, RIM still has about a 3% share of the mobile OS market with its Blackberry OS. The Android OS also continues to be the most popular OS with ting.com.
Nielsen reports that 40% of smartphone subscribers use an Apple iPhone. Soon, ting.com should be accepting BYOD’s that includes the popular iPhone. Windows OS smartphones continue to slowly gain market share.
